Familiarize students with the theory and the process of communicating
with people across cultural, ethnic and racial divides. Specific focus
will be development of the ability to acknowledge and understand the unique
voice of people from the African, Asian, Middle Eastern and Latino cultures
as well as co-cultures within the United States. Students will study theories
from interpersonal and intergroup, intercultural anthology and a multicultural
history text. Through lectures, readings, films group discussions, written
and oral assignments, students learn the skills necessary to achieve positive
outcomes when communicating with others that are perceived as different.
