will this program do for me?
The Certificate or A.S. Degree Program covers training in Introduction
to Aircraft Maintenance; Basic Electricity Systems; Aircraft Metal Structures;
Hydraulics, Pneumatics and Cabin Systems; Rigging and Electrical Systems;
Aircraft Material Process. The FAA has approved this course of study
thereby permitting students with the Certificate of Completion to take
the exam for the FAA Airframe Certificate.
What
kind of job can I get once I complete the program?
Graduates are eligible for positions as general aircraft overhaul mechanic,
accessory mechanic, electric shop mechanic, general cabin, and equipment
mechanic, maintenance crew member, ramp service crew member, and hangar
crew member. After attaining experience and further training, students
may be prepared for the position of airframe technician (licensed),
supervisor or inspector.
How
much can I earn in this career?
The entry-level salary is approximately $30,000 or more per year. The

How
long will the program take?
The certificate generally takes 3 semesters to complete on a full-time
basis; two or more years to complete the degree. Please refer to Program Curriculum for specific requirement information.

What
time of day are classes offered?
Courses are offered primarily during daytime hours while some evening
courses are provided. Daytime classes are from 7:30 am to 1:15 pm, Monday
through Friday. Evening classes are from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm, Monday

How
do I enroll?
Enrollment is limited; permission to enroll in the program must be obtained
from the Aeronautics Department. Contact (415) 239-3901 for more information
about enrollment procedures. Students should first apply to CCSF followed
by taking the placement exam. Students will need to submit a department
application and schedule an appointment with the department advisor.
What
are the requirements for certification?
Applicants prior to enrolling in the Aircraft Maintenance Technology program 1) complete ESL 82 with a final grade of "C" or higher or receive a CCSF placement of ENGL 92 with a "C" or higher or receive a CCSF placement of ENGL 94 or 2)students enrolled in English classes complete ENGL 92 with a "C" or higher or receive a CCSF placement of ENGL 94 and 3) students complete MATH E, BSMA G, BSMA H, or BSMA J or receive a placement of MATH 840. The Federal Aviation
Administration requires the student to read, speak and understand English.
Other requirements include satisfaction of the math component; students
must be a legal resident of California, and have good health, eyesight
and hearing. Students must pass required courses with a minimum score
of 70% and meet hourly attendance requirements.
