What will this program do for me?
Upon completion of the program, you will have fulfilled two years of lower division requirements for transferring into a four-year journalism program. Also, after two years of training, you could be awarded an Associate of Arts Degree in journalism. We encourage students who are interested in a future career in journalism to consider a four-year degree program after they complete courses at City College.

What kind of job can I get once I complete the program?
Students completing the program at City College may qualify for work as a copy editor, paginator or reporter for a non-daily publication either as an intern or in an entry-level position. Further education will expand your career opportunities.

How much can I earn in this career?
The average annual salary for a journalist in the first years of a career is around $36,000. Please refer to Occupational Outlook Handbook for current information on salary and job prospects.

How long will the program take?

How do I enroll?
For new students, click here to apply for admission. You may also call Admissions directly at (415) 239-3285. Once you are admitted into the college, you will be informed about the registration procedure. If you are a continuing student, you may either pre-enroll in the class or show up on the first day of instruction to add the class. If you have specific questions about the program or which courses to take, please call the Department.

What are the requirements for receiving a degree?
